The volunteer accompanies clients to the hospital for a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) exam and/or a Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) exam. Duties include:
- Give client LAWS resources and advocacy while at the hospital
- Make referral to LAWS employee for follow-up
- Be on-call
- Fill out appropriate documents for client to receive services
- Answer questions regarding LAWS services, what the exam looks like, what each reporting option is, safety planning, and potentially getting shelter services.
Volunteer must complete the 40- hour Volunteer Training, background checks, and confidentiality form. In addition, the volunteer must complete the specific SANE/FNE training outside of the original 40 hours. A volunteer must shadow at a minimum 2 times before being on-call alone.
