Volunteer: Hospital Accompaniment Volunteer

The volunteer accompanies clients to the hospital for a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE) exam and/or a Forensic Nurse Examiner (FNE) exam. Duties include:

Give client LAWS resources and advocacy while at the hospitalMake referral to LAWS employee for follow-upBe on-callFill out appropriate documents for client to receive servicesAnswer questions regarding LAWS services, what the exam looks like, what each reporting option is, safety planning, and potentially getting shelter services.

Volunteer must complete the 40- hour Volunteer Training, background checks, and confidentiality form. In addition, the volunteer must complete the specific SANE/FNE training outside of the original 40 hours. A volunteer must shadow at a minimum 2 times before being on-call alone.

This position helps with the evening support groups that are held weekday evenings assisting preparation, set-up, reception, co-facilitation and clean up.

This includes:

Assist with group room set-up as needed by group facilitatorsGreet group members as they arrive and direct them to the room as neededAssist clients with signing in and any paperwork that needs to be completedOpportunity to co-facilitate if requestedAdministrative tasks as needed. This may include copying, shredding, sorting, etc. Some days there will be no administrative tasks so you are welcome to bring something to read or work on while we have group.After group members leave assist in cleaning up the room as needed
